Alaska Aces News Release

Anchorage, Alaska – Ending months of speculation that one of their most complete players might be headed elsewhere, the Alaska Aces have signed left winger Mike Scott for the 2004-05 season.

Scott returned to Alaska, where he had spent four years at UAA, for his second full pro season last year and averaged a point per game for the Aces before being called up in January to the AHL, where he stuck with the Providence Bruins, scoring four goals and four assists in 32 regular season games at the next level. He wore a Providence sweater to start the 2004 postseason, and after the Bruins had been eliminated, flew to Boise in time for Game Two of the Pacific Division Finals, where he scored the only Alaska goal in a 4-1 loss that ultimately started the Steelheads on their way to the Kelly Cup.

The 27-year-old Calgary native, who scored 15 goals and was named a WCHA academic All-American as a senior at UAA in 2002, enjoyed five two-goal games for the Aces last year after breaking Mississippi club records for most goals, assists, and points by a rookie in 2003. Scott was named ECHL Player of the Month in February of that year and ultimately led the Sea Wolves all the way to the Kelly Cup semi-finals, scoring three game-winning goals along the way. Including the four he scored for Atlantic City, whom he joined for their run to the 2002 Kelly Cup semi-finals, the wiry, 6-1, 195-pound Scott now has 11 postseason goals to his credit.

The Aces will be in the midst of training camp when Greenville invades Anchorage for two pre-season games October 13 and October 14 at 7:15 p.m. All practice sessions during training camp are FREE and open to the public, just go to www.alaskaaces.com for a complete schedule. Tickets for the pre-season games against the Grrrowl may be purchased by calling 258-ACES or at www.ticketmaster.com.

Alaska opens up its regular season October 22 at defending Kelly Cup champion Idaho before returning home for a three-game set with San Diego at Sullivan Arena, beginning October 29. KFQD 750 AM will again serve as the flagship station for Alaska Aces games, with the live feed also available at www.alaskaaces.com, which also will offer live video webcasts of all Aces home games and selected road contests, courtesy of B2 Networks.
