Condors Open House and Family Day Ready to Roll
September 30, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
The Bakersfield Condors annual Open House and Family Day has been set for Sunday, October 10th from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. This season is the first time the event will be held at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center, which is located at 1325 Q Street, between Truxtun and California, and can be reached at 852- 7400.
With training camp officially opening on Friday, October 8th, the first chance for fans to meet the team is at the Open House. The center hosts a public skating session each Sunday beginning at noon, though the Condors will take the ice from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. for a skate with the team. Fans can bring their own skates, or rent skates for $3.00.
As part of the annual event the Condors are asking that fans help in a charity canned food drive. An "admission price" of two canned food items is being asked, with the collection being donated to the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter. In the previous two seasons the Open House canned food drive has brought in over 2,000 pounds of goods.
After the Skate with the Condors, the team will take the ice for a scrimmage and skills session from 3:15 - 4:45 p.m., inviting fans to stick around and see them in action. The Condors Slapshot game will be set up so fans can test their own skills, and there will be a clown making balloon animals and face painting for the kids.
Season ticket holders will be able to pick up their ticket books at the Open House, the first day they will be available. The following morning, Monday, October 11th, will be the day that individual tickets go on sale for the Condors pre-season match against the Fresno Falcons on October 16th at Centennial Garden. The box office at the Garden will be open at 10:00 a.m. and tickets can be purchased by phone at 322-2525.
"This event is always considered the official sign that the season is upon us," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "We're looking forward to having the event at the Ice Center this year as well. It's a smaller place; the fans will be able to get up close and personal with the team, and season ticket holders will finally have their tickets in their hands. It'll be a great day!"
The Bakersfield Condors second season in the ECHL opens in 22 days at home on October 22nd against the expansion Victoria Salmon Kings. Ticket packages are on sale now for as low as $30. Contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825) to secure your seat location.
Condors Droppings: The Bakersfield Condors team store will be closed on Friday, October 1st. Regular business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. beginning next week. The team store is located directly across Truxtun Avenue from Centennial Garden and can be reached by phone at 324-NETT (6388).
