Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - It was a tough night at the dish for Beloit tonight, as the Snappers fell to the Kernels by a final score of 5-2 this evening. Beloit had plenty of runners on the basepaths tonight, but could not get that big hit in the loss tonight at Pohlman Field.
Hits would be far and few between for the Snappers tonight, but it was quite the opposite for the Kernels as the hitting started early and often for the them this evening. In the first, Cedar Rapids started off hot hitting back to back homers to open up the contest.
The scoring for Cedar Rapids would continue throughout the game with the Kernels plating two more runs in the third and one in the sixth to take the early advantage 5-0. Unfortunately for Beloit, that would be all Cedar Rapids would need, as the Snappers struggled to get the bats going tonight, but did have some bright spots.
In the seventh inning, Anthony Churlin would put the Snappers on the scoreboard with one swift swing of the bat. With Churlin leading the inning off, Churlin would demolish a ball over the left field wall for his third homer of the season and the Snappers first run of the game.
Beloit also had plenty of walks and baserunners on the night, but could just not get that big hit to make a dent on the scoreboard. In fact, the Snappers had 13 baserunners tonight, but were 0-for- 9 with runners in scoring position falling 5-2.
For the Snappers on the mound, Angello Infante will be tabbed with the loss on the night. Infante threw five innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, while punching out 3 compared to one walk.
Chase Cohen would replace Infante in the sixth inning and was marvelous coming out of the pen for Beloit. Cohen's final line would read two and two-third scoreless innings, while striking out 7 and only surrendering 4 hits in total.
Brandon Withers would finish out the game for Beloit and would pick right up where Cohen left off stranding a runner on to end the eighth. Withers would throw one and a third scoreless innings, punching out 2 and giving up just 1 hit.
Beloit will be back in action tomorrow when they take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the second game of this four game series. Tomorrow night is YMCA Day at Pohlman Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 P.M. at Pohlman Field.
After tomorrow, Beloit will have the third installment of Bark in the Park on Thursday followed by Scout Night and the SSM Health Oven Mitt giveaway on Friday. A proceed of all dog tickets will go back to the Humane Society and the Oven Mitt giveaway is first come, first serve at the main gate inside Pohlman Field.
