Beloit Sky Carp News Release
DAYTON, OH - In a low scoring affair with limited offense, the Beloit Snappers fell to the Dayton Dragons in the series opener Saturday evening by a final of 3-0. Beloit outhit the Dragons in the ballgame, but 3 errors proved costly as it was just too much to overcome tonight.
Dayton would get the scoring started in the game with 2 early runs right out of the gates in the bottom half of the first. However, both runs will end up being unearned for starter Bryce Nightengale after a defensive miscue with two outs allowing both runs to score and Dayton to take the early lead.
Dayton would get one more run in the fourth inning to take the early 3-0 lead, but that would be all it would take as Beloit struggled to capitalize on offense tonight leaving 16 men on base.
For the Snappers offensively, they had plenty of traffic on the basepaths with at least a runner on in eight of the nine innings, but were just unable to get that big hit to break through. Five Snappers collected hits on the night with Nick Osborne leading the team with a 2-3 performance with a walk.
For Beloit on the mound, Nightengale would get the start and was solid in his first start since returning from the Injured List last week. Nightengale will be tabbed with the tough loss after throwing three innings giving up just 3 runs (1 earned), two hits, on two walks.
Angello Infante came into the game in relief to finish out the ballgame and was absolutely stifling keeping Dragons hitters off balance. Through five innings of work, Infante gave up no runs on just one hit, while punching out two hitters.
Beloit will look to even the series out tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Dragons again in Ohio with first pitch at 1 P.M. CT. Beloit will wrap up the series in Dayton and return home on Wednesday to open up a 6-game homestand starting with the West Michigan Whitecaps.
