Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wisc. - The Snappers just couldn't get anything going offensively tonight in what was actually a very interesting game. Beloit fell to the Lansing Lugnuts by a score of 5-0 but it wasn't just an ordinary game. The Lugnuts starting pitcher, Kendall Graveman, had the pitching performance of his life.
Graveman pitched 8.1 hitless innings. Yes, that is correct, Kendall Graveman had a no-no going all the way into the bottom of the ninth inning with one out before Beloit's catcher, Jose Chavez, singled on a ground ball off the glove of shortstop Duwel Lugo. Graveman did walk Jose Chavez in the third inning, so the chance of a perfect game was no longer there. Graveman was replaced by Griffin Murphy immediately after his dreams of pitching a no-hitter were dashed. He finished the night with 8.1 IP, one hit, one walk, and an ERA of 0.44.
The first runs of the game didn't occur until the top of the fifth when Lansing scored three runs, all on singles to left field. The Lugnuts extended their lead in the seventh inning when they scored 2 more runs when Dickie Joe Thin singled to left field to score Ian Parmley and when Matt Dean doubled to left field to score Thon.
Dylan Covey got the loss for the Snappers tonight as he pitched 6.2 innings and finished the night with a 5.71 ERA. Covey goes to 0-2 on the season.
The Snappers take on the Lugnuts again tomorrow at 2:00pm as they try to win the series against Lansing. The series is tied 1-1. It's Ugly Sweater Day at Pohlman Field tomorrow. The fan with the ugliest sweater will receive some Snappers merchandise. Get your tickets at the Snappers front office, call (608) 362-2272, or visit www.snappersbaseball.com to get your tickets. If you can't make the game you can listen to it live on The BIG AM 1380, your new home for Snappers Baseball.
