Bees Sting Captains 5-2

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH)- The Bees scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and went on to beat the Captains by a score of 5-2. In the fifth, Exicardo Cayones walked to begin the inning and motored to third on a one-out double by Kody Evans. The score was already 3-0 headed into the fifth inning, and both Cayones and Evans scored on a wild pitch and passed ball respectively. The Captains have lost nine of their last ten games.

Burlington scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Kody Eaves walked to lead off the game, and Chad Hinshaw singled him to third base. Mark Shannon grounded out to first base and Eaves scored. Burlington led 1-0. Eric Aguilera singled Hinshaw to third base. Aguilera got in a rundown and Hinshaw scored during the play and it was 2-0 Bees.

Burlington added a run in the top of the second inning. Anthony Bem boom tripled to lead off and came home to score on a fielder's choice and the score was 3-0 Burlington.

Lake County scored their run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dorssys Paulino, struck out and reached on a wild pitch. After two more separate wild pitches Paulino was on third base, Dorssys raced home on a ground out by Eric Haase. The score was 5-1. Lake County added a run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Clint Frazier. The score was 5-2, that was the final.

RHP Mitch Brown (0-2) started game two for the Captains and took the loss. Mitch pitched four and one third innings, allowing four hits, five runs, four were earned, he walked four and also struck out four. Brown tossed two wild pitches. Matt Whitehouse entered in relief and pitched four and two thirds innings. Whitehouse did not allow a run and just yielded one hit and one walk. Whitehouse struck out six.

RHP Michael Clevinger (1-0) started for the Bees and pitched five innings, allowed four hits, and he struck out four. Clevinger did not allow a run. Victor Alcantara pitched four innings of relief and allowed two earned runs on two hits, and four walks. Alan Busenitz retired the last two hitters to earn the save, his third of the season.

The Captains will remain home in Eastlake, Ohio on Saturday to take on the Burlington in the finale of a three game series. LHP Luis Lugo (0-2, 12.71) will start for the Captains and the Bees will counter with RHP Garrett Nutt (0-0, 2.45). First Pitch is at 1:00 PM from Classic Park.
