Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Beloit, WI- For the first time in five years the Beloit Snappers have made the playoffs. The Snappers clinched the first half Midwest League Western Division Wild Card Championship with a 5-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs.

Milwaukee native, Tyler Jones took the mound for the Snappers tonight making his 4th start this season, and the Snappers wasted no time giving him run support. Beloit started the first inning with a pair of home runs to give the Snappers an early 3-0 lead. Lead off batter, Nate Roberts ripped a first homer to start the game, then Adam Bryant drilled a two-run homer scoring Drew Leachman, who had a base hit to right.

The Chiefs would tie the game in the top of the fourth. With one out, Dustin Geiger hit a double off the center field fence. Two batters later, Wes Darvill hit an RBI single into center to cut the lead to 3-1. Javier Baez followed by drilling a deep home run to left field to tie the game at three.

The heroics started in the bottom of the eighth as the Snappers were able to capitalize on two errors by the Chiefs that put runners on second and third with no outs. After the first out and an intentional walk to Miguel Sano, Adam Bryant hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to put the Snappers up by one. That was followed by an RBI single off the bat of Jhon Goncalves to give Beloit a 5-3 lead heading to the ninth inning.

The ninth inning belonged to Michaeal Tonkin, and he delivered a perfect frame to record his sixth save of the season and send the Snappers to the postseason for the first time since 2007.

Come out and support your wild card champions tomorrow at 7:00 PM, as the Snappers start a three-game series against the Burlington Bees. David Hurbult will take the mound for Beloit with a record of 2-0 and an ERA of 1.80 in 25.0 innings of work. He will be opposed by right-hander Seth Frankhoff, who will take the mound for the Bees.

And remember to vote for Snappy as tonight is the final night of Mascot Mania and Snappy is locked in a tight battle with Orbit of the Albuquerque Isotopes.
