Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The rough first-half continued for the Clinton LumberKings as they were beat up by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 9-1, on Thursday night at Ashford University Field. The win for the T-Rats completed a three-game sweep on the LumberKings' home field for the second time this year. Wisconsin also swept Clinton in early May and have now beat the LumberKings in eight of nine meetings this year.

Wisconsin got off to a fast start against Clinton starter Ambioris Hidalgo with two runs in the first inning and two runs in the third inning. They broke the game open in the fourth as they chased Hidalgo with four more runs to make it 8-0. Clinton scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning on a RBI groundout by Mario Yepez. Wisconsin got multi-hit games from Brandon Macias, Max Walla, Ben McMahan and Cameron Garfield.

Drew Gagnon rattled off five scoreless innings and improved to 6-1 on the year. Kevin Shackleford worked the final four frames for the T-Rats and picked up his first save of the year.

Hidalgo lost his league-high ninth game and was charged with eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and three walks in just 3 2/3 innings. Josh Corrales allowed three inherited runners to score in the fourth inning but combined with Richard Vargas and Kyle Hunter to allow only one run in 5 1/3 innings in relief.

The LumberKings finish the first-half with a 16-19 record at Ashford University Field and close the half with a three-game set at Peoria. Clinton sends left-hander Jeremy Dobbs (1-1, 6.12) to the mound and Peoria counters with right-hander Starling Peralta (0-2, 4.22) in game one on Friday night. First pitch from Peoria is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
