
Smokies Trump Lookouts, 8-4

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Two big innings in which Tennessee was able to aggregately score seven runs propelled the Smokies to an 8-4 win over the Lookouts in Friday night action at AT&T Field.
Tennessee entered the scoreboard in the first inning on a Will Savage wild pitch, which was prefaced by a triple from Brett Jackson.
The Lookouts equalized the score in the bottom portion of the first by also utilizing a triple. Trayvon Robinson ripped a three-bagger down the left field line to set the stage for a play in which he scored on a throwing error by third baseman Russ Canzler on a Jerry Sands grounder.
The Smokies quickly reclaimed the lead in the second, as Tennessee was able to plate four runs in the big inning. Tony Campanda highlighted the rally with a two-RBI double.
A three-run homer by Matthew Spencer in the fourth frame augmented the Smokies' lead, 8-1.
Chattanooga plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth on three hits. Alex Garabedian led off with a single and moved to second on a Will Savage sacrifice bunt. Dee Gordon followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Travis Denker then hit a deep double to left field, scoring Garabedian and pushing Gordon to third. A Trayvon Robinson ground out plated Gordon, while putting the score at 8-3.
Jerry Sands hit and RBI single in the ninth for the Lookouts, but with the bases loaded, relief pitcher Blake Parker was able to come into the game a record the final out of the game to preserve the 8-4 score. In the process, Parker picked up his second save of the season.
Christopher Rusin (2-1) earned the win for the Smokies by throwing six solid innings. He yielded three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk, while striking out six.
Will Savage (0-1) took the loss for the Lookouts. In 5.2 innings of work, he surrendered eight runs (five earned), 12 hits, and one walk. He struck out four in the loss.
