
Smokies Add Mercedes To Roster Friday

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have added C Mario Mercedes to the active roster in advance of tonight's game against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Tennessee's roster is now back at 24 active players.
Mercedes joins the Smokies for the first time is his career. In 51 games this year for the Low-A Peoria Chiefs, he hit.269 (47-for-175) with four doubles and 20 RBIs. Mercedes was signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2003.
