Mauro Gomez's 3rd inning homer lifts Braves over Biscuits

Pearl, MS- For the second night in a row, the Mississippi Braves defeated the Montgomery Biscuits and are now one win shy of taking the series. On a night that saw the teams put on hold for an hour and seventeen minutes due to rain, the Braves and Biscuits finally got going at 8:22 pm. In the 3rd inning, Mauro Gomez hit a monster home run, well over the left field wall to give Mississippi the lead for good. Reliever, Yeliar Castro, earned the win while Juan Abreu took the save.

Mississippi scored first against Biscuit starter, Justin Garcia. Antoan Richardson walked, was bunted the second and then stole third. Eric Duncan promptly doubled to score Richardson, it gave the Braves a 1-0 lead. Montgomery would answer with two runs of their own in the 2nd. After a pair of walks, Craig Albernaz singled up the middle to bring in a pair of runs. Montgomery took their only lead of the game at that point, 2-1.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Yasser Gomez walked to lead off the inning. Antoan Richardson doubled to put runners at second and third. With two outs, Mauro Gomez came up and hit a three ball, one strike pitch from Justin Garcia over the left field wall and into the parking lot. The tape measure shot was the twelfth homer of the season for Gomez. It gave Mississippi a 4-2 lead.

An inning later, Jordan Schafer doubled to get the frame going. After a walk and a single, the bases were loaded for Antoan Richardson who grounded out and scored a run. The Braves led 5-2 at that point and turned the game over to the bullpen. Yeliar Castro, Benino Pruneda and Abreu went the rest of the way, giving up just one unearned run in the 9th to win 5-3.

Tomorrow night is the third game of the series. Mississippi will pitch RHP Kyle Cofield (1-3; 5.01) against Montgomery's LHP ALex Torres (9-5; 3.38). First pitch is set for 7:05.
