
Smokies Plate Two in Ninth for 2-1 Win

Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats dropped the series finale 2-1 to the Tennessee Smokies Wednesday night at Five County Stadium.
Starter Alexander Smit gave the Mudcats his finest start of the season, hanging seven scoreless innings on the Smokies while striking out six. Greg Atencio (BS, 1) (L, 1-1) in his second inning of relief allowed two runs in the ninth to surrender the lead.
Ty Wright led off the top of the ninth inning with a double before Blake Lalli reached on a wild pitch third strike. Russ Canzler was the hero for the Smokies, driving in Wright and Lalli on a double with one out in the final frame.
Casey Coleman gave Tennessee another quality start, allowing one earned run in six innings while striking out three Mudcats. Four Tennessee relievers combined for the final three innings, with David Cales (W, 1-0) picking up the win and Brian Schlitter (S, 20) earning the save.
The lone Carolina run scored when Sean Henry walked to lead off the fourth and came in on a Logan Parker RBI single, one of only five Mudcats' hits on the night.
The Mudcats head to Montgomery to start a five game series with the Biscuits. Carolina's Luis Montano (0-5, 7.53) will start the series opener against Aneury Rodriguez (8-10, 4.52) for Montgomery.
