Suns Clinch Playoff Berth, Will Host Postseason Game

JACKSONVILLE, FL - With the Jacksonville Suns' 4-1 victory over the Mobile BayBears combined with the Mississippi Braves' 7-6 loss to Chattanooga on Tuesday night, the Suns have earned their chance at another Southern League Championship and will host at least one game at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville during the playoffs. The Suns will face the Birmingham Barons in the first-round Southern Division series.
While the Suns and Barons are still battling for the second-half title, the Suns' record to date has guaranteed them a spot in the Southern League postseason. The Suns have made the playoffs in their first season as a Marlins affiliate, and for the first time since 2006, when they fell to the Montgomery Biscuits in the first round. It also gives the Suns a Southern League-best 17th postseason appearance.
The playoffs will begin when the Suns face the Barons in Birmingham on Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11. The Suns will return home to host game three of the series on Saturday, September 12 at 7:05PM. Should the Suns win the second half title, the Suns would also host games four and five (if necessary) on Sunday, September 13 and Monday, September 14, respectively.
The winner of the series will then face the Northern Division winner in the Southern League Finals. Should the Suns advance, they will also host games for the Finals at the Baseball Grounds. The official schedule for these games will be released once the first round is complete.
Playoff tickets will be available for general sale beginning Tuesday, September 8, through the Suns Box Office at (904) 358-2846, or online at www.jaxsuns.com. Tickets are $7.50 for general admission, $10.50 for reserved seating and $13.50 for Homeplate Box seating. The 2009 season is presented by Everbank, official banking partner of the Jacksonville Suns. The Suns are the Double-A Affiliate of the Florida Marlins and a member of the Southern League of Professional Baseball.
