Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Wednesday afternoon's match-up between Mississippi and Chattanooga involved a see-saw battle in which the Braves ultimately came away victorious, thanks to a four-run eighth inning, in a 7-3 finish at AT&T Field.

After two innings of no run production, the Braves plated two in the third. With two outs, Matt Young singled to begin the rally. Brandon Hicks followed with an RBI double over center fielder James Tomlin's head. Concepcion Rodriguez then singled to right to bring home Hicks.

Chattanooga finally entered the scoreboard in the fifth, when Justin Sellers singled and quickly made his way home on a subsequent double from Eddy Perez.

Red-hot Russ Mitchell slammed a two-run homer over the left field wall to give the Lookouts a 3-2 lead.

Mississippi wasted very little time evening-up the score, as Benji Johnson hit a solo shot in the seventh to, once again, knot-up the score.

With homers proving to be the weapon of choice, the Braves captured the lead in eighth, when Willie Cabrera launched a Jesus Rodriguez (5-5) offering over the left field wall. The runs kept rolling in the eighth for the M-Braves, as Benji Johnson hit a two-RBI double to extend the Mississippi lead to 7-3.

Brett Butts (7-2) pitched the final three innings in shutout fashion to preserve the 7-3 score for the Braves, while earning the win in the process.

Chattanooga hits the road to play a five-game series against the Jacksonville Suns on Friday. The Lookouts will be back at AT&T Field on Thursday, August 3rd to play a five-game series at the Birmingham Barons. Tickets for these games or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
