Smith Joins Lynx As Castro Gets The Call

OTTAWA - The Lynx parent club, the Philadelphia Phillies, optioned LHP Matt Smith to the Lynx and recalled LHP Fabio Castro.

Smith, 27, posted an 11.25 ERA in nine games for the Phillies this season. He was acquired by the Phillies last season as part of the trade that sent Bobby Abreu and the late Cory Lidle to the Yankees. Smith had a 2.08 ERA in 14 games with Philadelphia in 2006.

Castro, 22, was 2-0 with a 3.24 ERA in six appearances for Ottawa this season. He made his Major League debut last season with Texas before being traded to Philadelphia in June. With the Phillies in 2006, Castro went 0-1 with a 1.54 ERA in 16 games. He did not allow a run through his first 17.1 innings with the club.

The Lynx (8-6) play the last game of their series in Scranton tonight after last night's rain out. The team will be back in town tomorrow for an eight-game homestand featuring games against Indianapolis (11-7) and Louisville (9-10).

Saturday is Health and Wellness Day at Lynx Stadium, featuring free massages courtesy of the International Academy of Massage. Next Friday (May 4th) is Super Hero Night. Young Lynx fans are encouraged to dress as their favourite super hero for the costume contest, with great prizes from Rainbow Cinemas.
