
Braves Hold Back Tides

Norfolk, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Norfolk Tides 2-1 Thursday at Harbor Park. Richmond carried a shutout two outs into the ninth and held off a late Tides rally to win the first of a four game series.
The Braves grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Barbaro Canizares. Richmond tacked on another run in the fifth when Willie Harris chased a run home with a single. In the ninth Terry Tiffee knocked in a run with a single to trim the Braves advantage to 2-1. The Tides had the potential winning run aboard before Jeff Bennett closed it out.
Manny Acosta earned the win in relief. Bennett picked up a save. Jon Leicester took the loss. Harris had three hits for the Braves. Tiffee had two hits for the Tides.
The Braves and Tides battle again Friday at Harbor Park at 7:30. Anthony Lerew will pitch for the Braves against Tim Kester. The two clubs move to The Diamond Saturday for the first of an eight game homestand.
The Braves benefit auction of their game worn and autographed Virginia Tech hats has generated more than $3,000 in bids to aid the Hokie Sprit Memorial Fund. The auction runs through May 3. For more information please call 359-4444 or visit www.rbraves.com.
