Smirnov Named to All-USHL Second Team

The United States Hockey League announced today that former Fargo Force forward, Denis Smirnov, was named to the all-USHL second team alongside forwards Tanner Laczynski (Chicago) and Nathan Sucese (Dubuque), defensemen Mattias Goransson (Tri-City) and Trevor Hamilton (Muskegon), and goaltender Ben Blacker (Cedar Rapids).

Smirnov led the Force in scoring during the 2015-16 regular season and ended fifth overall in the USHL tallying up 61 points with 29 goals and 32 assists. He played in all 60 games and was named the USHL's CCM Forward of the Week three times throughout the season. The forward entered the USHL record books twice in the past year becoming just the fifth player in Tier-1 history to have three consecutive 40-point seasons and tying the USHL record for most goals scored by a single player in one regular season game with four. Smirnov was also the team's leading scorer during the 2014-15 season with 40 points throughout 53 games played scoring 18 goals and adding 22 assists. He will head to Penn State for his college hockey career beginning this fall.
