Slow First Quarter Dooms Idaho

Boise, Idaho - The Idaho Stampede fell to the Reno Bighorns 110-102 in the first game of back-to-back matchups. The Bighorns jumped to a 25-point lead in the first quarter that the Stampede couldn't overcome.

Reno jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter, shooting 66 percent from the field. Going into the second quarter, Reno led 35-18. Stampede guard Scott Machado scored 14 points in the second period to bring Idaho within 10 points at the half. Trail Blazers rookie Allen Crabbe made three 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Stampede trailed 79-72 heading into the fourth. But the Bighorns outscored the Stampede 31-30 in the final period and finished the game with a 110-102 victory.

The Stampede shot 35 percent in the first quarter and allowed 66 percent shooting from the Bighorns. Despite the slow start, Idaho shot 45 percent in the remaining three quarters and slowly chipped away at the lead.

All five starters for the Bighorns (26-20) scored in double figures, as well as two players off the bench. Mo Charlo led Reno with 18 points while adding eight rebounds.

Stampede (23-23) guard Allen Crabbe scored a game-high 26 points on assignment from the Portland Trail Blazers. Crabbe made six 3-pointers and pulled down eight rebounds. Jason Ellis recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The two teams will play again Saturday at CenturyLink Arena.
