Santa Cruz Warriors News Release

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Kaiser Permanente Arena has attained Green Business Certification from the State of California and the City of Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz Warriors announced today.

Kaiser Permanente Arena, the home of the Santa Cruz Warriors, is now the largest Green Certified venue in the Monterey Bay area. Together with Allterra Solar, Ameri-Kleen and Whiting's Foods, the Santa Cruz Warriors, who operate the facility, have worked to reduce Kaiser Permanente Arena's carbon footprint and conserve water.

Kaiser Permanente Arena boasts a comprehensive recycling program, environmentally friendly cleaning practices thanks to Watsonville-based Ameri-Kleen, and efficient water fixtures. The Green Business program calculates that Kaiser Permanente Arena saves more than 15,000 pounds of carbon dioxide and more than 82,000 gallons of water per year.

"This is a monumental achievement, and it proves that like-minded groups can work together towards a common goal where everybody wins," said Santa Cruz Warriors President Jim Weyermann. "Working hand-in-hand with the City and our partners, we have found ways to strengthen our environmental stewardship, and we will continue to find ways to become a greener facility. We know our fans would expect nothing less."

To augment the Green Business Certification, Allterra Solar and the Santa Cruz Warriors have launched a program that provides incentives for owners of new solar systems to donate their renewable energy credits to Kaiser Permanente Arena. The Warriors are striving to further reduce their carbon footprint and help the City of Santa Cruz reach its goal of 5,000 new residential solar installments by 2020 as outlined in its Climate Action Plan. Allterra Solar is the sponsor of the Santa Cruz Warriors' Green Week, and representatives will be present at the remaining regular season home games to educate fans about the benefits of switching to solar energy.
