KINSTON, NC (JULY 18, 2011) - Kinston rallied from a two-run deficit in the ninth inning to come back and beat the Dash 5-4 on Monday night at Grainger Stadium. Anthony Gallas tied the game with a two-run double off Taylor Thompson before Doug Pickens won it with a bases-loaded RBI single, sending the Indians into a state of delirium with the walk-off victory.

The contest started in Winston-Salem's favor, as Ian Gac blasted a three-run home run in the first inning off Indians starter Clayton Cook to give the Dash (11-13, 43-51) an early lead. The homer was Gac's league-leading 24th of the season and gave him 68 runs batted in, also tops in the Carolina League.

Winston added one more in the third inning on a bloop RBI single by Mike Blanke to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Indians (14-9, 52-40) tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Gallas hit a sacrifice fly off Dash starter Santos Rodriguez while Pickens had an RBI groundout later against Stephen Sauer to halve the deficit.

The Dash missed several late opportunities to add to their advantage, leaving runners in scoring positing in each of the last four innings.

Kinston started its rally in the ninth inning with singles from Tyler Holt and Justin Toole against Thompson (6-2). The count then went to 3-2 against Gallas, who drove the next pitch over Kyle Colligan's head in left field for a double, scoring both baserunners to tie the game. Thompson then struck out Jeremie Tice and intentionally walked Adam Abraham to create a force out situation.

After the Indians successfully executed a double-steal, Thompson intentionally walked Abner Abreu to load the bases with one out. Tyler Cannon struck out to bring Pickens to the plate. Pickens, only playing because of an injury to starting catcher Roberto Perez earlier in the game, lined a 1-2 pitch to center field for a base hit to score pinch runner Delvi Cid and win the game in walk-off fashion for the Indians.

Thompson was charged with his sixth blown save and took the loss. Chris Jones (5-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief for the Indians.

Winston-Salem lost for just the second time in 36 games when leading after eight innings. It was the Dash's third straight loss, dropping them 3.5 games behind the Indians for first place and a playoff spot in the Southern Division.

Winston will try to snap its recent skid Tuesday night when LHP Matt Wickswat (2-1, 2.78) opposes LHP Francisco Jimenez (3-1, 3.60) in a 6:30 p.m. start. The broadcast of the game begins at 6:15 on www.wsdash.com.

The Dash return home from their longest road trip of the season on Friday night to start a seven-game home stand at BB&T Ballpark. Fans may purchase tickets for every game this season by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or by visiting www.wsdash.com.
