Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Woodbridge, VA - The Hillcats were shut out for the 10th time this season Monday night. Three pitchers combined to blank the 'Cats, as the Nationals went on to win 1-0 at Pfitzner Stadium.
Potomac manufactured one run early. Francisco Soriano led off the bottom of the first with a double down the left field line. Small ensued after the double. Jeff Kobernus put down sacrifice bunt advancing Soriano to third. Destin Hood then hit a fly ball to deep center field. L.V. Ware tracked it down but Soriano was able to score easily on the sacrifice fly.
After the one run in the first, nothing but zeroes were put up the rest of the game.
The Hillcats only had one runner reach second. Joey Terdoslavich singled in the fifth to lead off the inning. He stole second base as Barrett Kleinknecht struck out for the second out of the inning. Then Geraldo Rodriguez struck out to end the inning. Terdoslavich finished the night with three of the HIllcats five hits.
RHP Cameron Selik tossed the first six innings of the combined shutout. Selik (3-6) allowed four hits, walk none, and struck out four on his way to the win. Marcos Frias held the 'Cats scoreless in the seventh and eighth, while Hector Nelo shut the door in the ninth with a perfect frame, converting his 12th save in 13 opportunities this season.
LHP Chris Masters suffered the loss after allowing just one run on two hits through seven innings of work.
The Hillcats fell to 8-16 with the loss, while the Nationals improved their post All-Start break record to 15-9.
The two teams meet again tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 pm. RHP David Hale (1-3) will take the mound for Lynchburg against RHP Adam Olbrychowski (2-5) for Potomac.
