Kinston Indian Marty Popham Is the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week

Kinston, NC - Kinston starting pitcher Marty Popham is the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week. Popham won his third straight start on Sunday, striking out a season high eleven batters in 5 2/3 innings. Popham allowed just three hits and no walks in his only start of the week.

Popham is 4-0 with a 2.56 ERA in 14 appearances (eight starts) this season. The Kentucky native has struck out 60 while walking just five batters in 59 2/3 innings of work for Kinston this season. Popham has also pitched for Double A Akron and Triple A Columbus this season.

Popham is the third K-Triber, joining T.J. House (6/13-6/19) and Drew Pomeranz (4/8-4/17), to take a CL Pitcher of the Week Award. Outfielder Abner Abreu was Carolina League Player of the Week last week.
