Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 18, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash announced four roster moves on Monday. Catcher Luis Sierra has been promoted to AA Birmingham and the Dash receive catcher Kevin Dubler (pronounced "DOOB-ler") from low-A Kannapolis in a corresponding roster move. Also, infielder Kyle Eveland has been sent to Rookie Great Falls, with infielder Juan Silverio joining the Dash from Kannapolis.
Sierra played in 50 games for the Dash and was hitting .202 with three home runs and 17 RBI. He began the season as a backup catcher, but played more at second and third base in June and July. Sierra will begin his second stint with AA Birmingham after he was promoted there on June 6. He returned to the Dash three days later. He had a career year offensively in 2010, hitting .293 (84 for 287) with five home runs, 41 RBI, 17 doubles, two triples, and 48 runs scored in 79 games, all with Winston-Salem. The Colombia native is in his second full season as a catcher after the White Sox converted him from a full-time infielder.
Dubler hit .266 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 44 appearances for Kannapolis. He split time between catcher and designated hitter for the Intimidators and had a hit in five of his last seven games. He had multiple hits in four of those games. A Downers Grove, IL native, Dubler was selected in the eighth round of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Illinois State University. With the Redbirds in 2008 he hit .358 with nine home runs and 56 RBI and was a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench Award given to the nation's top collegiate catcher.
Eveland joined the Dash on June 28 from Kannapolis, where he started the season. With Winston-Salem, he played in six games and had one hit in 11 at-bats. He was signed by the White Sox organization as a non-drafted free agent before the 2011 season. Eveland played last year in the independent Frontier League for the Traverse City Beach Bums, where he hit .239 with one home runs and 14 RBI in 37 games. In 2009, Eveland played for the Sioux Falls Canaries of the independent American Association and hit .266 with four doubles and nine RBI.
Silverio has been the everyday third baseman for Kannapolis and hit .289 with five home runs and 58 RBI in 88 games. Upon his departure, the 20-year-old Silverio was third on the team in hitting. He was signed as a free agent in August, 2007 out of Santiago, Dominican Republic. Silverio split last year between Kannapolis and Great Falls, combining to hit .228 with seven home runs and 40 RBI. He made his professional debut in 2008 with Advanced Rookie Bristol and hit .224 in 59 games. Coming into that season, he was ranked by Baseball America as the tenth-best prospect in the White Sox organization, but has since dropped out of the rankings.
The Dash roster remains at the Carolina League limit of 25 players.
