Joliet Slammers News Release
The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-lost to Windy City 4-1 on Saturday night at Silver Cross Field.
Windy City scored in the 1st inning against Joliet starter Kody McFarland. Michael Torres double and scored on a Ryan Soares single to make it 1-0. McFarland settled in after that and allowed only one hit in the next three innings. Meanwhile the Slammers struggled against ThunderBolts starter Jake Fisher. Joliet managed just one single from Grant DeBruin through the 1st four innings. Fisher continued to cruise through the Joliet lineup. He allowed just one base runner on a walk over the next four innings and he struck out the side in the 6th as the score remained 1-0. The Slammers finally picked up their 2nd hit in the 7th on a infield single from Russell Moldenhauer but he was picked off by Fisher. McFarland entered the 8th inning with the game still 1-0 and allowed a leadoff double to Mike McGuckin. After a sacrifice bunt and then a RBI single from Torres, McFarland was lifted with the score 2-0. He went 7 1/3 quality innings allowing 7 hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Kevin McNorton gave up a sacrifice fly to Soares. Sam Moore came on and allowed an RBI double from Ryan McIntyre to make it 4-0 in the 8th. The Slammers finally scored in the bottom of the 8th on a RBI double off the wall in center from Jake Gronsky to make the score 4-1. In the bottom of the 9th, Joliet tried to make it another late rally. Max Casper led off with an infield single. Chris Epps walked. After two pop outs, Adam Giacalone walked to load the bases with two outs for Jose Garcia. He represented the winning run at the plate but popped out to the first baseman Davidson Peguero to end the game. Peguero made a spectacular catch leaning over and then tumbling over the fence by the 1st base camera well just past the Slammers dugout. That brought the ThunderBolts onto the field to celebrate the victory. Fisher allowed just the one run on four hits over 8 1/3 innings for the win. He struck out five and walked three.
