(Avon, OH) - The Lake Erie Crushers (28-25) hit three home runs on their way to a 16-4 defeat of the Florence Freedom (22-29) Saturday night.

The Freedom lost by a season-high 12 runs while surrendering a season-high 16 runs.

The Crushers never trailed as they took an early 1-0 in the second as Ryan Hutchison delivered a two-out RBI single.

Florence responded in the top of the third as Zak Blair smacked a double and scored on an error by Juan Sanchez on a sharp grounder off the bat of Caleb Bryson.

But the Crushers would take the lead for good in the bottom of the third against Freedom starter Dave Middendorf (3-5). Craig Hertler drew a lead-off walk. Andrew Davis hit a one-hopper to Ben Kline at short. Kline bobbled the ball and threw low to first. The throw got away from Rob Kelly and the Crushers had runners at the corners with nobody out.

That's when Anderson Hidalgo hit the first of three Lake Erie homers on the night to put the Crushers up 4-1. A Juan Sanchez RBI double in the fourth extended their lead to four.

The Freedom pulled within two in the fifth on a Caleb Bryson two-run home run. It was Bryson's first career long ball.

But the Crushers responded with two of their own in the bottom of the fifth on an Adam Ford opposite field two-run shot.

The 7-3 Lake Erie lead turned into an 11-3 advantage after they plated four runs in the sixth inning. A bases clearing double from Vincent Mejia was the big blow in the inning.

Five more runs crossed the plate in the eight for the Crushers as Ford ripped a bases clearing double and Joey Burney launched a two-run home run.

Florence tallied a run in the ninth but it was too little too late.

The teams will square off in the rubber match of the series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. eastern time. Peter Gehle (3-3, 3.68 ERA) takes the mound for the Freedom. All the action can be heard on http://www.allinbroadcasting.com/Florence.html.
