Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (May 28, 2008) - The Sussex Skyhawks scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning, highlighted by C Yohanny Valera's second home run of the game, and went on to beat the Brockton Rox by the final score of 15-4 at Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday night.

Valera hit a two-run home run in the second inning to give Sussex its first lead of the game. Brockton pushed across a run in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by 1B Francisco Lebron to cut the lead to 2-1. Sussex came out and answered emphatically in the fifth inning with two home runs, a solo shot by 2B Chris Brown and Valera's three-run home run which chased Rox starter RHP Mike McTamney from the game. In total, Valera finished the night with two home runs, a triple, five RBI, and two runs scored.

Trailing 7-1 in the sixth inning, Brockton started to rally. Lebron drove in his second RBI of the game with a one-out single to score SS Dominic Ramos, and LF Jud Thigpen brought home the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. However with the bases loaded and two outs, 2B Eugene Julien struck out to end the threat.

The Skyhawks put the game completely out of reach with a five-run eighth inning, and tallied three more times in the ninth. Almost lost in the offensive output was the second consecutive effective performance by a Sussex starter. RHP Kyle Ruwe threw seven innings and allowed three runs on ten hits while striking out three en route to his second victory of the season.

Brockton begins a ten-game road trip on Thursday when the team heads to Nashua, NH to start a four-game series with the Nashua Pride. RHP Wayne Lundgren (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will attempt to stop a two-game skid by the Rox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
