New Jersey Jackals News Release

Quebec City, QC - Behind the strength of a seven-run rally in the top of the ninth inning, the New Jersey Jackals erased a 5-1 deficit to take the third game of their series against Les Capitales de Quebec by a score of 8-5 on Wednesday night. With the win, the Jackals avoided the series sweep while spoiling the Capitales tenth anniversary celebration in front of 3,573 fans at Stade Municipal in Quebec City.

Quebec jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI single by first baseman Eddie Lantigua. The Capitales pushed three more across in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead.

New Jersey countered with a run in the top of the fifth when catcher Craig Maddox drove in first baseman Scott White, who had singled to lead off the frame, with a single to right field. After Quebec scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 5-1 lead, the Jackals hopes were fading before Capitales reliever Jose Guanchez entered in the ninth.

Third baseman Chris Kelly led off the ninth with a walk. After a Marcos Rodriguez strikeout and a fielder choice off the bat of White, the Jackals were down to their final out. Left fielder Francisco Leandro then walked before designated hitter Andrew Larsen stroked a single to load the bases. Maddox would single in another run to make it 5-2.

After a walk by center fielder Zach Smithlin made it 5-3, second baseman Marcus Sanders hit a nubber back to the mound with the bases loaded with Guanchez threw wide of first base. Three runs scored as New Jersey took a 6-3 lead. The Jackals added two more runs to finish up the scoring at 8-5.

Rusty Tucker pitched the final two innings to earn his first win of the season. Corwin Malone started for the Jackals and was relieved by Ryan Pacyna in the fifth inning after allowing four runs (only one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Guanchez took the loss for Quebec, allowing seven runs (two earned) in the ninth.

New Jersey hosts the Ottawa Rapidz tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium. Juan Done takes the ball for the Jackals in the home opener. If you can't make it out to the ballpark, be sure to catch the live webcast at www.jackals.com beginning ten minutes prior to first pitch.
