Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Nashua, NH -- The Nashua Pride offense, ranked last in the league in batting average, erupted for 12 runs on 16 hits as the Worcester Tornadoes had to settle for a split of their two-game series, falling to the Pride, 12-5, at Historic Holman Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Pride set the tone early, scoring five 1st innings runs off Tornadoes starter Shaun McNamara (0-1), as seven consecutive batters reached base on five hits (non of which were hit hard) and two walks. Alex Trezza got Worcester on the board with his league-leading third home run of the season leading off the second inning, but Nashua got to McNamara for two more in the 4th and after B.J. Weed's RBI single helped get one run back, the Pride touched up Jake Ociesa for three in the 5th to take a commanding 10-2 lead. Mike MacMillan's first home run of the season off Nashua starter Hideki Nagasaka in the 6th made it 10-4, but the Pride got two more in the 7th off righthander Dave Wasylak to put things away. An RBI groundout by Jeff LaHair scored Chuck Jeroloman in the 9th to provide the final tally.

Nagasaka (1-0) pitched a shaky 6 innings for the Win and McNamara (0-1) was charged with 7 earned runs in 3.1 innings to take the Loss. The defeat dropped the Tornadoes to 4-2 on the season. The seven-run loss was the biggest margin of defeat for Worcester on the young season, and the 12 Runs and 16 Hits allowed were also season-highs for the pitching staff. Jeroloman and Francisco Caraballo both extended their respective hitting streaks to a season-long 6 games. Justin Edwards made his professional pitching debut, and was impressive, retiring the side in order in the 9th with two strikeouts. The Tornadoes will return home on Thursday to begin a seven-game homestand with the Home Opener tomorrow night. Righty Junior Guerrero (1-0) will get te start for Worcester. He will be opposed by Sussex righthander Michael Rogers. First pitch is set for 6:05pm.
