Atlantic City Surf News Release

Atlantic City, N.J. - Starter J.C. Huguet earned his first win of the season, while the Atlantic City offense broke out with a five-run fourth inning, as the Surf defeated the Ottawa Rapidz, 6-2, to complete a three-game series sweep in a Can-Am League contest on Wednesday afternoon at Bernie Robbins Stadium. The victory came in front of a School Day crowd of 5,409, the second-highest single-game attendance since the club joined the league in 2007.

For the second consecutive game, Ottawa got on the board in the top of the first, this time courtesy of 1B Jabe Bergeron's sacrifice fly. Atlantic City responded with five tallies in the fourth inning, starting with an RBI single by LF Clyde Williams, followed by RF Josh Burrus strolling home on a balk by Rapidz' starter Adam Hawes (0-1). 2B Brad Thoma followed with his first hit of the season, a two-run double, before CF Lucas Taylor's sacrifice bunt drove in the final run of the inning.

Ottawa (1-6) responded with a single run in the fifth, on Bergeron's RBI single, before Atlantic City (5-2) made it a 6-2 game on a sixth-inning double by 1B Joe Burke, bringing home C Michael Santoro.

It was more than enough for Huguet (1-0), who registered the win by allowing two runs on three hits in five innings of work, striking out five. Derek Barrows and Aaron Easton were stellar in four frames out of the bullpen, combining for four strikeouts allowing just one batter to reach base over the minimum. Easton earned the save by pitching three innings of effective relief, the first save credited to a Surf hurler this season.

Offensively, SS Anthony Granato, Burke and Williams each had two hits for Atlantic City. The Surf added two steals to their league-leading total, now up to 14, with Santoro and Taylor each swiping a base.

The all-Canadian homestand continues, as the Quebec Capitales visit town Thursday evening for a four-game set. Atlantic City's Adam Cox (1-0) opposes Michel Simard (0-0) in the series opener.
