PEORIA, Ill.- The Beloit Sky Carp managed just four hits as Peoria evened the series at one game each with a 3-0 victory Wednesday night.
The Chiefs plated a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take control of the game, and the Chiefs pitching staff did the rest in the game.
Beloit's offense was led by Torin Montgomery's two hits. The Sky Carp put the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning but couldn't come through with a big hit to avoid the shutout.
Ike Buxton got the start for Beloit and allowed three runs in four and two-thirds innings of work. The Beloit bullpen was terrific again, combining for 3 1-3 innings of scoreless ball. Will Stewart, on a rehab assignment, contributed a scoreless frame.
Beloit will continue its season-ending series with the Chiefs with a 6:35 game Thursday night.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
