Chiefs Clinch Postseason Berth in Shutout Win Over Beloit

Peoria, IL - The Chiefs punched their ticket to the Midwest League postseason Wednesday defeating Beloit 3-0 at Dozer Park.

Peoria has locked up a playoff spot for the first time since 2018 when they reached the Midwest League Championship series. The victory was also the eighth shutout win for the Chiefs this year.

Edgar Manzo worked smoothly through five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three in a win.

Andrew Marrero and Edwin Nunez combined for four scoreless innings, fanning seven to finish the game. Peoria held Beloit to just four hits and seven total baserunners.

Peoria got on the board in the fourth against Beloit starter Ike Buxton. Alex Iadisernia led off the inning with a solo home run to make it 1-0. The Chiefs made it 3-0 in the fifth when Jimmy Crooks drove in two with a single to make it 3-0.

Buxton went 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, walking two and striking out two.

The Sky Carp did threaten the Chiefs in the top of the ninth. Torin Montgomery singled and Ynmanol Marinez reached on an error. But Nunex struck out back-to-back batters to close the game and earn his fifth save of the year.

Peoria improves to 69-59 and 36-26 in the second half. The win was the Chiefs 10th against Beloit in 2023. The Chiefs have won 10 or more games against three different teams this year. Beloit falls to 52-75 and 24-37 in the latter half.

Game Three of the series is scheduled for tomorrow at 6:35 p.m.
