Skoug Walks It Off, Dash Take Game One against Hudson Valley 6-4

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Fueled by an extra innings walk-off homer, the Winston-Salem Dash defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades 6-4 on Tuesday night at Truist Stadium.
The Dash struck with a two-spot from the get-go as Harvin Mendoza smacked a high fly ball into left field which scored Luis Mieses and Alex Destino, placing Winston-Salem ahead 2-0. Winston-Salem plated another pair in the third inning on a single-turned-error off the bat of Samir Dueñez which brought home Destino and Luis Curbelo.
Hudson Valley began to creep in on the deficit during the fourth inning after Andres Chaparrowalked and scored on a single from James Nelson. In the road sixth, Jake Sanford was pushed home on two consecutive fielder's choice groundouts after hitting a single and taking second on a passed ball.
The Renegades tied the game at 4-4, scoring a run in both the eighth and ninth innings. Andres Chaparro touched home in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from James Nelson. Anthony Volpe crossed the plate in the ninth on a double from Elijah Dunham, tying the game on a ball deep into right field.
Sammy Peraltaentered in the tenth and left unscathed to bring the Dash up to bat. With Luis Curbelo on second, Evan Skoug blasted a line drive walk-off home run into right field with two outs to give the Dash a 6-4 victory. Peralta (1-0) took the win, while Carlos Espinal (1-1) was credited with the loss.
The Dash look to move ahead in the series on Wednesday with a first pitch slated for 7:00 p.m. Matt Sauer will toe the rubber for Hudson Valley. Dan Metzdorf will take the hill for Winston-Salem. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 on https://www.milb.com/player/carlos-espinal-664284.
