CHARLESTON, SC - Matthew Skole stroked two solo homers and drove in three runs for the Hagerstown Suns as they downed the Charleston RiverDogs 6-0 in South Atlantic League action with 2,677 on hand at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Charleston falls to 60-53 (21-25 in the second half) with the loss, while Hagerstown improves to 67-48 (25-21 in the second half).
In the fourth, the Suns benefitted from the first of Skole's (3-5, 2 HR, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) two homers when he whacked one over the right field wall for his 26th of the year off starter Philip Wetherell (5-6).
Hagerstown added to their lead in the fifth, starting with an RBI double by Billy Burns. Bryce Ortega knocked in the second run of the inning with a single to make the score 3-0. Ortega and Skole each tacked on an insurance run in the seventh with RBI singles. Skole, the SAL home run leader, closed out the scoring in the ninth by launching his 27th homer of the year over the wall in right.
On the mound for the Suns was Taylor Hill (10-6), who fired shutout ball for six innings, allowing eight hits and two walks with one strikeout, earning his tenth win. Richie Mirowski then followed with two perfect innings and Leonard Hollins finished off the win with a flawless ninth.
Reymond Nunez, Dante Bichette, Jr. and Ali Castillo provided the offensive highlights for the RiverDogs on the night, as they each picked up two hits, including two doubles from Nunez.
BALLPARK FUN: Before the game, one lucky fan participated in a closest to the pin contest on the field with RiverDogs' players Fred Lewis and Ben Paullus, as the PGA Experience was on hand and will be at the park during the entire series. Lewis won the contest between the three.
COMING UP: On Thursday night, fans can witness the RiverDogs debut of RHP Corey Black (0-0, 0.00 ERA) as he faces off against RHP Blake Schwartz (1-0, 3.31 ERA). On Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, the Ashley View Pub will have $1 food and beverage specials and the stylings of DJ Natty Heavy.
