Skeeters Edge Patriots 3-1 to Clinch Series

Sugar Land, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters (9-1, 56-24) defeated the Somerset Patriots (2-8, 48-32) 3-1 Monday evening from Constellation Field. Somerset lost its sixth contest in a row as the Skeeters have won the first four games of the lengthy six game series.

In the bottom of the first inning designated hitter Josh Pressley roped a RBI single to right field that gave the Skeeters an early 1-0 advantage.

In the top of the sixth inning third baseman Corey Smith slugged a home run (13) to deep left field that tied the ball game at 1-1.

Sugar Land retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning as second baseman Jeff Dominguez poked a two RBI single up the middle to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Skeeters which would be the final.

Gilbert De La Vara (3-1) earned the win tossing seven innings while allowing just one run. Jason Lowey (3-3) suffered the loss in relief. Roy Corcoran notched his first save of the year.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Thursday, July 18th when the Patriots return home to take on the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m. The game features Jewish Heritage Night presented by the Jewish National Fund.
