The Skeeters won a tough, tight ballgame with great pitching and defense Monday night at Constellation Field, beating the Somerset Patriots for the fourth night in a row, 3-1. Josh Pressley's RBI single in the first inning put the Skeeters ahead early, 1-0. Starting pitcher Gilbert De La Vara limited Somerset to five hits in seven innings and the only one that really hurt was Corey Smith's solo home run in the sixth, which tied the game, 1-1.

De La Vara's night was over after he threw 91 pitches over seven innings and it looked like he'd be stuck with a no-decision despite his great effort. Then the Skeeters offense rode to the rescue in the bottom of the seventh. Jeff Dominguez lifted a two-run single into left field, grabbing a 3-1 lead and putting De La Vara in position to be the winning pitcher.

Jay Marshall and Roy Corcoran slammed the door on Somerset with shutout innings in the eighth and ninth. Corcoran notched his first save.

Up Next: The Skeeters take on Somerset in the fifth game of this six-game series Tuesday night at 7:05. The Skeeters will send RHP David Pauley to the mound to make his Skeeters debut against Patriots LHP Graham Taylor (5-4, 4.64 ERA). Tuesday night is the beginning of the Bud Light College Series, as it's Community College Night.

Skeeters Notes:

Jeff Dominguez: 1-4, 2 RBI
