Bridgeport, Conn. - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Jesse English. English joins the Bluefish for his second season with the team and in the Atlantic League.

"It's great to have Jesse back with the team," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He was a great asset in our bullpen last season and look forward to his contributions again."

The 11-year professional started the 2013 season in Mexico with Reynosa of the Mexican League. He appeared in 25 games from the bullpen going 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA. The lefty spent the 2012 season with the Bluefish, appearing in 42 games from the ‘pen. He went 3-0 with a 3.48 ERA over the course of 54.1 innings pitched. The 28-year-old was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the sixth round of the 2002 amateur draft. He spent seven seasons in the Giants organization before being claimed off of waivers by the Washington Nationals in 2010. After a strong showing with Triple-A Syracuse, the California-native got the call and made his Major League debut with the Nationals later that year. He made seven appearances and recorded a 3.86 ERA in seven innings of work with the big club. In 150 career minor league appearances, English owns a 40-21 record with a 3.81 ERA and 556 strikeouts in 521.2 innings of work.
