Modesto Nuts News Release

Modesto, CA. - Sleeping bats woke up in the tenth to send the Modesto Nuts to a 6-2, ten-inning loss to the Bakersfield Blaze on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.

After nine combined scoreless innings, the Blaze (6-2; 6-2; 43-35) lit the tenth on fire with six runs on six hits to snap the Nuts' first three-game winning streak of the season.

Logan Cozart (L, 0-3) had retired four in a row to start his relief appearance for the Nuts (4-4; 30-48) before a bloop double by Gus Craig with one out in the tenth. Joe DeCarlo drove in the game's first run on the Blaze' third hit, a RBI double. Justin Seager walked before a two-run single by Aaron Barbosa. Three more runs scored on an error, an infield single and a RBI groundout.

Tyler Chatwood started the game for the Nuts on MLB rehab from the Colorado Rockies. He worked five shutout innings and allowed just a first-inning single, the only hit for the Blaze until the tenth. Chatwood struck out three and walked two before giving way to fellow MLB rehabber Jake McGee. The big lefty tossed a scoreless sixth and struck out two.

Troy Neiman was dynamite in two perfect innings, striking the final four he faced.

Tyler Pike started for the Blaze, he worked seven-shutout frames giving up just three hits.

Kody Kerski (W, 2-1) worked around three hits and a walk to keep the game scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings.

Game two of the four-game set starts at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night at John Thurman Field. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online.
