Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- Hyun-Jin Ryu gave the Quakes six solid innings and Rancho withstood a late Stockton rally, as they defeated the Ports on Friday night, by a final score of 7-5.
Stockton scored two in the eighth and one in the ninth and left the tying runs in scoring position against Quakes' reliever Kevin Brown, as Rancho won their second straight game to open their four-game home stand at LoanMart Field.
Ryu gave up two runs early, as the Ports scored two runs on four hits in the first frame, claiming a 2-0 advantage.
That lead didn't hold long though, as the Quakes' offense plated four in the second inning to take the lead for good. Michael Ahmed put Rancho on the board with an RBI single, scoring Matt Beaty to make it 2-1. After an RBI groundout from Joey Curletta tied the game at 2-2, Julian Leon smacked a two-run homer to left field, giving Rancho a 4-2 lead against Ports' starter Zack Erwin (3-8).
The Quakes added to their lead in the third, as Beaty and Donavan Tate had back-to-back run-scoring hits, making it 6-2.
Tim Locastro doubled and scored on an error in the fourth, as Rancho built a 7-2 lead.
Ryu (1-1) lasted through six full innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out three batters while using 84 pitches.
The Quakes bullpen saw David Reid Foley give up a pair of runs in the eighth, as the Ports took advantage of a pair of errors, making it 7-4.
Stockton threatened against Kevin Brown in the ninth, as Brown issued three walks and fired a wild pitch, as the Ports pulled to within two and put the tying runs in scoring position. Brown fanned the final two hitters though, earning his first save of the year in a Rancho uniform.
The Quakes (5-4, 47-32) will look for a third straight home win on Saturday, as they'll go with Grant Holmes (6-3) in the third game of the four-game series. The Ports will counter with Heath Fillmyer (4-5), as they try to end their own five-game skid.
Saturday is Fernando Valenzuela Bobblehead Giveaway and another Post-Game Fireworks Extravaganza, sponsored by WaBa Grill, as 1,500 fans will take home a bobblehead. Game time is set for 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
