Six-Run Inning Dooms Delmarva in Finale

Salisbury, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to drop the Shorebirds, 6-3, in the series finale at Perdue Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Delmarva Shorebirds were first to strike in the fourth inning. Kieron Pope led off with a sharp single to left field. Tyler Stampone followed suit with a single to advance to Pope to second. Then, a fielder's choice ground out moved him to third. Pope scored on an RBI ground out to second by Dan Lyons.

Then, in the fifth inning, the Shorebirds defense unraveled and allowed six runs to score on four errors. Steve Souza also connected on his seventh home run of the season in the inning as well. Shorebirds starter Matt Hobgood also walked two batters and hit one in the frame.

The ‘Birds plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. T.J. Baxter reached on a infield single. Jason Stifler then advanced him ahead to third with a double to left field. Stifler then came into score on a balk.

Hagerstown Suns starter Mitchell Clegg earned the win in six innings of work. Matt Hobgood was tagged with the loss.

The Shorebirds will travel to Hickory, North Carolina to open a four-game series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
