Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - Rome Braves starter RHP Arodys Vizcaino pitched 7.2 solid innings to lead the Braves to a 5-1 win against the Hickory Crawdads before 1,515 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday evening. The Crawdads won the series, 3-1, and remain in first place in the Northern Division with a two game lead over the Hagerstown Suns.
Vizcaino (6-3, 3.16 ERA) surrendered just one unearned run on five hits while striking out nine in his 7.2 innings on the mound to pick up the win for the Braves (17-26).
The Braves got on the board first with two unearned runs in the fourth against Hickory starter LHP Robbie Erlin (1-1, 0.30 ERA). With one out and RF Cory Harrilchak on at first, 3B Jordan Kreke hit a grounder to short that was booted by SS Leury Garcia, putting runners at first and second. After a sac bunt by C Braeden Schlehuber, SS Mycal Jones singled to right to score both Harrilchak and Kreke for a 2-0 Rome lead.
The Crawdads (27-17) scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth against Vizcaino. With two outs in the inning, C Leonel De Los Santos doubled to center. 2B Edwin Garcia followed with a grounder to shortstop that Jones threw errantly to first, allowing De Los Santos to score, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
LHP Chad Bell came on for Hickory in the sixth and dealt three scoreless innings to keep the 'Dads within a run. However, the Braves added three insurance runs (only two earned) in the ninth against RHP Braden Tullis to round out the 5-1 victory. Erlin was tagged with the loss for the 'Dads.
