Six In A Row! IronBirds Beat Doubledays, 6-1

Aberdeen, MD- The Aberdeen IronBirds continued their hot start to the month of July, beating the Auburn Doubledays by a score of 6-1. In the win, Steve Wilkerson smashed his first career home run and the IronBirds' bullpen was fantastic again, giving up just three hits after the fifth inning.

The Doubledays got on the board in the fourth inning. They used three singles in a row from Garrett Gordon, Matthew Page, and Chris Riopedre, and Gordon scored on the third hit, making it 1-0 in favor of Auburn.

Aberdeen would tie the game in the fifth. Oswill Lartiguez worked a one out walk and then scored on a wild pitch with Wilkerson at the plate, making it 1-1 heading to the sixth.

The IronBirds exploded for five runs in the sixth inning, sending ten men to the plate. The pounded out six hits in the inning, including RBI singles from Alex Murphy and Lartiguez, which was followed shortly thereafter by Wilkerson's round tripper into the IronBirds' bullpen. The IronBirds led 6-1 going into the eighth inning and would win by that same score.

Nigel Nootbaar earned his first professional win, pitching 2.2 innings of relief. He allowed one hit and one walk, striking out one. Chase McDowell took the loss for the Doubledays, falling to 0-1.

The IronBirds will battle the Doubledays again tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m. Steve Johnson (0-0, 0.00) will get the start for the IronBirds, while the Doubledays will counter with Matt DeRosier (0-2, 7.71).
