
Six former San Antonio players named to Texas League Hall of Fame

Howie Fitzgerald, Jim Galloway, John "Ziggy" Sears , Joe Martina, Dennis Eckersley and Sid Fernandez have been elected into the Texas League Hall of Fame. They join Billy Williams, Joe Morgan, Brooks Robinson, Ike Boone, Pat Newnam, John McClaskey and Mike O'Connor as fellow San Antonio players and managers in the Texas League Hall of Fame.
Dennis Eckersley, one of the newest members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, was the Texas League right-handed Pitcher of the Year in 1974 when he was 14-3 for the San Antonio Brewers. That season, Eckersley led the loop in wins, winning percentage (.824), strikeouts (163), while completing 10 of his 23 starts.
Sid Fernandez is one of just tow Texas League pitchers that have won the pitcher's "Triple Crown", leading the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts. The league's Pitcher of the Year in 1983 while pitching for the San Antonio Dodgers, Fernandez produced 13 wins, 209 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.28. Additionally, he is the last Texas League pitcher to strike out as many as 200 batters in a single inning.
The Texas League Hall of Fame was created last season and there were originally 40 members elected.
