Everett Silvertips News Release

LETHBRIDGE, Alberta - Gage Goncalves scored twice, including the game winner, and Dustin Wolf turned in 23 saves to lift the Everett Silvertips to a 3-1 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes before 3,033 fans at Enmax Centre on Wednesday night in WHL action.

The Tips secured their eighth win in ten road games and won for the third straight meeting against Lethbridge. Martin Fasko-Rudas earned a third period insurance goal, and the Tips stayed to within two points of first place Portland in the U.S. Division, with two games in hand.

Coming out of a battle featuring Lethbridge's second ranked offense (3.9 goals per game) up against the Tips lights out defense (WHL leading 2.2 goals per game), the Tips suffocated the Hurricanes attack by outshooting the Hurricanes, 37-24 and held Dylan Cozens, a first round draft pick prospect of the Buffalo Sabres and entering the game tied for the WHL lead with 44 points, scoreless on just two shots on goal.

UP NEXT: The Tips continue their road trip on Friday at 5:05 p.m. PT (KRKO / Tips App) against the host Swift Current Broncos at Credit Union iPlex and return home for Teddy Bear Toss presented by Ace Hardware on Saturday, Dec. 14 against the Vancouver Giants, 7:05 p.m. in downtown Everett. Similar to Saturday, the Tips bursted out of the gates early with the game's first goal. Gage Goncalves, off a steal from center ice, beat Bryan Thomson from the left circle for an unassisted goal, 2:35 into the game for a 1-0 lead .

The Tips continued to unload on the Hurricanes with a 16-6 shots advantage and nearly went up by two when Bryce Kindopp beat Thomson with a snap shot but missed off the crossbar.

Thomson settled in while Wolf kept the Hurricanes off the board with sound puck control, with the 1-0 score going deep into the second period. The Tips took a penalty and Lethbridge capitalized on an Oliver Okuliar rebound at the net with 4:19 remaining, seconds after Wolf turned away Logan Barlage from point blank range.

Lethbridge succumbed to penalty trouble and the Tips capitalized on an early 5-on-4 in the third period, when Goncalves buried his second goal of the game through a screen on Thomson, set up by Wyatte Wylie at the 1:07 mark.

Fasko-Rudas effectively sealed the game on a walkout goal at the 5:06 mark, sneaking a wrister past Thomson for a 3-1 lead.

Wolf turned away all 10 shots in the third period, his busiest workload, including a snap shot between the circles on Dylan Cozens
