York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution won the final game of the series beating the Camden Riversharks 3-1 Sunday evening in front of 3,048 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Camden was only able to scatter six hits against two York pitchers as they were dominant all game long led by John VanBenschoten's masterful start. This was their fourth win in a row and broke a club record gaining their fifth series sweep already of the season. The homestand continues with Long Island coming into town Monday night at 6:30 p.m. to start a three-game series.
The Riversharks opened the game by collecting a couple of softly hit singles from CF Drew Macias and LF Lloyd Turner. Macias would then proceed to score when York starter John VanBenschoten got SS Danny Richar to hit into a double play.
York would answer in the fifth inning to tie the game up at 1-1. C Octavio Martinez and CF Scott Grimes got on base with a pair of two-out singles and RF Chris Walker brought in Martinez with his second single of the game.
The Revolution came back the next inning with LF Val Majewski hitting a towering triple off the right field wall to plate 1B Chris Nowak. Majewski then proceeded to score on a wild pitch by Camden's starter Carlos Vasquez giving York a 3-1 lead.
VanBenschoten earned the win (3-1) pitching a season high seven and two thirds innings making it five of his starts in a row that York has won. He allowed the only Camden run to score in the first inning while limiting Camden to six hits and walking none. Reliever Ricardo Gomez pitched the final four outs receiving his first save of the season.
Notes: The Revolution have won 15 of their past 17 games at home and 15 of their last 20 overall. The Revs are a season-best 10 games over .500. It was their third consecutive sweep of a home series, a franchise-first. The Revs have now swept Camden twice this season, and finish the first half 8-1 against the Riversharks, matching their best nine-game start against any opponent in club history (started 8-1 vs. Lancaster last season). York scored 16 of their 18 runs in the series with two outs. VanBenschoten has only given up two earned runs combined in his last four starts, a span of 25.1 innings. York's four stolen bases this game ties a season high and gives them four players with at least nine so far this season. Walker went 9-for-12 in the series. The Revolution are 6-1 in VanBenschoten's last seven starts. Majewski has scored 16 times in the last ten games, and has now scored a total of 50 runs on the season which is tops in the Atlantic League. Martinez is now on an 8-game hitting streak. With his single in the second, Harrison is now on a 14-game hitting streak, collecting hits in 23 of his last 24 games. York's Corey Thurman (6-2, 3.71) will face Long Island's Mike Loree (9-1, 1.73) in Monday's series opener starting at 6:30 p.m., with the Revs wearing camouflage jerseys presented by BAE Systems, which will be auctioned off during the game benefitting the USO. There will also be Sprint Fireworks after the game at Sovereign Bank Stadium, and it will be a Microbrew Monday and a Hatfield Dollar Dog Night. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
