Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Appleton, WI - Trevor Shull and Jake Partridge combined to hurl eight scoreless innings to lead the Bowling Green Hot Rods (14-9) past the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (12-11) 6-0 on chilly Saturday night in Eastern Wisconsin. The effort put forth by Shull and Partridge, who are both from Spokane, Washington, plus two late rallies by the Hot Rods' bats were enough to break the team's three-game losing streak.
After both teams posted zeroes on the scoreboard through the game's first six frames, the Hot Rods finally broke through to score the game's first run in the top of the seventh. Todd Glaesmann reached on an error and was then driven home on Jeff Malm's triple to right field. The next batter, Taylor Motter, then doubled to left field, driving home Malm to give Bowling Green a 2-0 advantage.
In need of at least one insurance run in the top of the ninth, the Hot Rods struck for four tallies. Three straight batters, Alejandro Segovia, Jake Hager, and Tyler Goeddel, singled through the hole at shortstop to put their team ahead by six runs. Hager's single was that of a two-run variety.
The six runs proved plenty for a Hot Rods pitching staff that on Saturday was made up of Spokane's Shull and Partridge and Birmingham, Alabama's Austin Hubbard. The three arms combined to blank the Timber Rattlers through nine innings, giving the Hot Rods their first shutout win since Citizens First Opening Night on April 5 when the team won 3-0 against South Bend.
Bowling Green and Wisconsin will continue their three-game series from Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM. The middle game in the series will see LHP Ryan Carpenter (3-1, 3.13) get the start for Bowling Green, while Wisconsin will counter with RHP David Goforth (2-1, 6.27).
