Shudo's trick saves Thunder in OT

RIO RANCHO, NM- The Wichita Thunder escaped with a 7-6 overtime win over the New Mexico Scorpions on Saturday night. Chris Shudo netted the game winner just 40 seconds into the extra frame, which also gave Shudo a hat trick. The Surrey, British Columbia native scored goals at 1:46 in the first period and 9:40 into the second.

The Thunder lead 6-0 after Shudo's second goal. Rookie Jordan Hack scored two goals, while Chris Greene and Matt Byrnes also found the back of the net.

However, beginning at 10:54 in the second, the Scorpions began a string of six unanswered goals, capped of by Torren DelForte's game-tying goal at 15:18 in the third. Wichita had to fight off a late Scorpions' power play that carried into overtime.

The Thunder match their season-high in goals from 2007-2008, which was not accomplished until the final day of the season.

Wichita next plays on Friday, October 31st in their annual Halloween game when they host the Rocky Mountain Rage at the Kansas Coliseum. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For ticket information call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL.
