October 25, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Sebastien Centomo stopped 32 of 33 shots to lead the Laredo Bucks past the Corpus Christi IceRays 3-1 at the American Bank Center on Saturday Night. Centomo was brilliant throughout the evening, keeping the Bucks ahead of the IceRays despite Corpus Christi outshooting and outchancing Laredo handily. The Bucks drew first blood in the season series, as the IceRays dropped their second straight game. Corpus Christi will keep its focus on Laredo, travelling to take on the Bucks on Thursday Night in the first road contest of the year for the IceRays. Corpus Christi then returns home for home games next Friday and Saturday Night. Tickets are on sale now. Call 361-814-PUCK for more information.
Despite being outchanced in the opening frame, Laredo got the only goal of the period. Jeff Bes beat Dustin Traylen short side from the right circle with a wrist shot at the 14:09. The IceRays outshot the Bucks 12-2 in the opening period of play, but could not solve Bucks netminder Sebastien Centomo.
In the second period, Centomo continued his mastery, keeping the Bucks in front until the final minute of the frame. On their ninth power play and 21st shot of the game at 19:00, Corpus Christi got on the scoreboard as Ryan Bennett redirected a John McNabb slapshot from the top of the crease and tied the score 1-1. The IceRays outshot the Bucks 9-6 in the period.
In the third period Centomo added 12 more saves and Alex Goupil scored twice to send Laredo to victory. Goupil scored on a breakaway at 2:11 and then redirected a shot that trickled through Dustin Traylen at 14:09. The IceRays defeat was their second in a row, dropping their record to 1-2 and the Bucks improved to 2-2 on the year with the win. The IceRays went 1-11 on the power play while the Bucks were scoreless on eight power play chances.
The IceRays are off until Thursday Night when they play their first road game of the year in Laredo. The IceRays then return on Friday Night for Frosty Friday on Halloween against the Bucks. Fans in attendance will receive half-priced 24oz. beers. Then on Saturday, the IceRays welcome the Oklahoma City Blazers to town on Caller-Times Family Night. Get a family four pack of tickets for just $32 in most arena locations. Tickets are available for both games. For more information, please call the IceRays office at 361-814-PUCK.
