Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (27-41) defeated the Birmingham Barons (27-40) by a 3-2 score in the third game of the five-game series at Regions Field on Friday night.

Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Cody Poteet (4-3) earned the victory by pitching a Jacksonville season-long eight and a third innings, where he allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Poteet's first eight innings were scoreless, and he left the game with Jacksonville still leading 3-0 as he was two outs shy of Jacksonville's first nine inning complete game shutout since 2014. Birmingham right-handed starting pitcher Lincoln Henzman (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts in his seven innings on the mound. Jacksonville right-handed relief pitcher Tyler Stevens got the final two outs in the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.

Jacksonville grabbed an early lead, with Santiago Chavez delivering a two-out RBI single in the top of the second to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 1-0 lead. That score remained until the top of the seventh when Chavez delivered a two-RBI single to grow Jacksonville's lead to 3-0.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Barons received back-to-back RBI singles by Luis Gonzalez and Ti'Quan Forbes to cut Jacksonville's lead to 3-1. Stevens then struck out Laz Rivera to end the game in a 3-2 Jacksonville win.

The Jumbo Shrimp and Barons will continue their series with the fourth game of the five-game set on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. eastern. Right-handed pitcher Josh Roeder (0-1, 1.80 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against a Birmingham starter to be announced. Fans can listen to the game on the Jumbo Shrimp Network presented by Community First, beginning at 7:15 p.m. with the pregame show "Shrimp On Deck" locally on Sunny 102.3 FM, on the TuneIn Radio app, and www.jaxshrimp.com.
