Shorthanded Tourists Come Together for Big Win

Asheville Tourists News Release
CHARLESTON - The Asheville Tourists came into Thursday's game with the Charleston RiverDogs extremely shorthanded. They had no position players available to come in off the bench. Two players, Willie MacIver and Danny Edgeworth, made starts in positions they have not played all year. It didn't matter one bit. Asheville put together an impressive 7-2 win over Charleston.
MacIver started at third base and Edgeworth was at second. Willie did not see a whole lot of action but Edgeworth did and he was flawless. Those two combined for back-to-back doubles in the ninth inning to account for the Tourists final run.
Asheville was comfortably in front prior to the ninth. Coco Montes hit a Grand Slam in the top of the fifth to open the scoring. It was Montes' second Grand Slam of the season. Javier Guevara added an RBI fielder's choice in the frame. Niko Decolati chipped in with an RBI single in the sixth.
Alfredo Garcia was brilliant over five innings. The Tourists lefty faced one over the minimum and needed only 58 pitches for his five shutout frames. Garcia struck out four and induced a ton of weak contact by mixing his fastball and his breaking ball all evening.
The lack of depth caught up to Asheville when Cade Harris was hit by a pitch in the fifth and had to leave the game. Asheville brought in relief pitcher Jacob Bosiokovic to pinch run. Bosiokovic stayed in the game and played left field. Jacob finished 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored.
The win snapped a four-game losing skid but was Asheville's eighth in 12 match-ups against Charleston. Game two of the current four-game series is set for Friday night at 7:05pm.
