ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Greg Day and Eric Schneider scored twice and Marc Magliarditti stopped 33 shots as the Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Alaska Aces 5-2 before 4,648 Friday at Sullivan Arena.

Alaska had not played for 13 days and the layoff showed early, as Day found Chris Kenady just 13 seconds into the game for a breakaway that Kenady converted in style, whistling a shot top shelf past Aces starter Dan Murphy. Day roofed a drive over Murphy with 1:33 left in the period to give Vegas a 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes.

Denis Ladouceur, who arrived in Anchorage after 2:00 a.m. Friday morning, fired a wrist shot by Magliarditti at 7:29 of the middle frame with Alaska on the power play. But 11 seconds later, Schneider scored to restore the two-goal spread for the Wranglers, and the Aces never challenged thereafter. Day scored on tip-in with nine seconds left in the period for a 4-1 bulge after two periods.

Alaska had one last chance to work its way back into the game when Joe Talbot was awarded a penalty shot at the 2:47 mark of the third period after Day tossed a loose puck in the crease down the ice. But Magliarditti stuffed Talbot, and less than a minute later Schneider was credited with his second goal of the night when his centering pass deflected off the back of defenseman Keith McCambridge's skate.

Ladouceur and Mike Lee assisted on Wes Dorey's 12th goal of the season with 10:46 remaining, but the 5-2 score held up for the rest of the way despite the Aces' decided advantage in shots on goal, 35-26. Alaska, which had a four-game home winning streak snapped and lost for just the third time in 15 games at Sullivan Arena, and Las Vegas meet again tomorrow and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. The Aces played the game without three of their four leading scorers and fell to 24-15-3 overall, 14 points behind Pacific Division leader San Diego, who beat Idaho 8-2 in Boise.

Tomorrow's 7:00 p.m. game against the Wranglers (28-13-5) will be preceded by the fourth annual Guns ‘N Hoses charity tilt at 4:00 p.m., pitting the Anchorage Fire Department and the Anchorage Police Department and benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Saturday and Sunday's games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
